OUR MISSION
1) To promote diverse children’s books as galaxy-shaking tools for building empathy.
2) To conduct meteoric fundraisers for First Book, allowing them to provide free diverse children’s books to their national member schools and organizations.
3) To serve as a satellite, beaming ideas for engaging children in empathetic conversations about issues of race, class, culture, community and connection.
ABOUT US
The Empathy Drive is a project of Kirsten Cappy of Curious City and a Board of Advisors from the children’s literature community.
Kirsten Cappy is the owner of Curious City, a company that creates tools that invite readers to engage deeper in the books they read through play, conversation, and social action. Those tools are available free to literacy professionals at CuriousCityDPW.com. Using her degree in Anthropology and her 25-year career of using books in early childhood, library, bookstore, and school settings, Kirsten believes deeply in using children’s literature to create a more curious and empathetic culture. She is also the co-founder of I’m Your Neighbor, a website and movement to connect long-term citizens with the immigrant community through immigrant fiction.
